According to the Ukrainian Air Force and military records, Russia launched more than 3,000 Shahed attack drones along with dozens of cruise and ballistic missiles during September alone. In one of the final mass waves at the end of the month, Russian forces deployed nearly 285 attack drones and multiple cruise and ballistic missiles in a single overnight barrage hitting multiple regions.
Despite Ukrainian air defense forces shooting down or jamming the vast majority of incoming targets, the scale of the attacks caused severe casualties and widespread structural damage:
Casualties Across Ukraine: Over the course of the week's intensified strikes, Ukrainian authorities and independent monitors recorded dozens of civilian fatalities and hundreds of injuries nationwide. Recent multi-region strikes alone left at least 87 civilians dead and hundreds wounded across affected provinces.
Nationwide Destruction:
Energy & Utilities: Strikes heavily damaged electrical substations and thermal power units in several oblasts, triggering emergency power cuts and grid instability.
Logistics & Infrastructure: Drones and missiles hit critical railway hubs, logistics warehouses, and key bridges.
Residential & Public Buildings: In cities across Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv, falling debris and direct hits damaged multi-story residential blocks, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities.
